A rich and decadent Imperial Stout matured in an ex-Cognac oak barrel, brewed for The Good Spirits Co. to celebrate ten years of their Wine & Beer shop.
The barrel-fresh aroma offers restrained waves of Cognac spirit with some oak-y, earthy dankness. Seriously smooth on the palate, there’s nonetheless a big 10% Stout here with plenty of dark roasted malt character plus vanilla, raisins, honey and, of course, rich spirit character and alcohol warmth creating a soft but firm edge for the malt sweetness to push up against.
Clean, smooth and highly drinkable for 10% but with a tar-like mouthcoating that creates a long, luxurious finish. A fitting beer for a special birthday celebration.
