Information
Dating back to the 17th century Berliner Weisse is a light, tart and zippy style that became incredibly popular in Berlin, where it was traditionally served with a choice of fruit syrup, making it the original fruited sour beer. Our version has a grist containing 50% wheat and is soured with Lactobacillus in the kettle before being fermented with Sacch. Trois yeast, which makes for a delicately fruity flavour despite the complete absence of hops. In a nod to the beer’s history we supply the beer in keg only, complete with our own syrups - Raspberry and Woodruff/Meadowsweet - developed and produced with our friends at Grunting Growler. These offer a carefully calibrated sweetness to the beer, which retains a characteristic sour tang.
