12 x 330ml Twisted Pilsner (4.8%)

Big Ideas Series 6.1 Twisted Pilsner (4.8%) x12

  • Description and Tasting Notes

The iconic Pilsner style’s balance of malt sweetness and delicate hop character make for an irresistible drinking experience. This ‘twisted’ Pilsner is gently dry hopped, adding a refreshing lemon/lime citrus aroma to the classic bread-and-honey malt profile. Clean and crisp on the palate with a soft lingering bitterness, and naturally carbonated to retain a gentle haze and smooth mouthfeel.

What The Hell Was I Thinking?

I was lucky enough to visit the Hop Research Institute in Czech Republic a few years ago and came back inspired to brew a pilsner with the classic Saaz hops in the boil and dry hopped with a ‘twist’ of Kazbek; another Czech variety known for its lemon citrus notes. The sample I took from the fermenter a couple of days after dry hopping the first batch told me in no uncertain terms that this hop is massively underrated! Bucketfuls of tropical and citrus fruit transformed what was already a very tasty lager into something more like a modern IPA. We’ve reined the dry hop in slightly since then, to move the malt/hops/yeast balance a few stops closer to a traditional lager, but it's still a twist more hoppy than your classic Czech Pilsner.
